Welcome to Forest School at DJPA!

We are fortunate enough at Dame Janet to have our very own woodland area which we have turned into a fantastic learning resource for the whole school. Forest School is an educational approach to learning outdoors.

Its philosophy is to encourage and inspire children to participate in a variety of experiences which will help to build self-esteem, independence, respect for all living things and a positive attitude towards learning.

At Forest school we build on every child’s innate motivation and positive attitude to learning, offering them the opportunity to take risks, make choices and initiate learning on their own terms.

Each session will follow a structured format and is planned and assessed by trained adults.

Learning that takes place in Forest school will support and extend the children’s learning in class. All activities in the woodland area are risk assessed, monitored and regularly reviewed.

One of the aims of Forest School is to ‘step back’ and allow children the freedom to explore the environment, their imagination and their own abilities. They will be encouraged to develop new skills and investigate the natural world around them.

In order to keep the children safe during their Forest School lessons, leaders are always looking for volunteers!

Anything from a single session to signing up for a whole term is welcome!

If you would like to volunteer please contact Miss Gilbert via the office.
